Unfortunately, no, they’re not vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
In an attempt to cut down on the number of versions of their newest operating system in comparison to Windows 7 (which has seven different versions), Microsoft announced that their newest system, Windows 8, will be released in three different versions.
1. Windows 8. Basic operating system for the average computer user.
2. Windows 8 Pro. Designed for the savvy techie and businesses, keeping “encryption, virtualization, PC management and domain connectivity” in mind.
3. Windows 8 RT. For tablets and netbooks, with emphasis put on conserving battery life.
It’s a bit interesting to see the different versions of the same operating system required to run on different pieces of technology. It’s a little slap of reality, a reminder of how fast technology is progressing and the diversity of the products that are being punched out.
